CHICAGO, IL — Last weekend, community members from across Cook County gathered to officially launch Sarah Bury’s campaign for Commissioner of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. Held at Kanela Breakfast Club, the event was full of energy as supporters, neighbors, and volunteers came together to build a people-powered movement for clean water and accountable government.
“I’m so proud and grateful to stand with such a dedicated and passionate group of neighbors, advocates, and organizers,” said Bury. “The energy in the room shows that people care deeply about how we manage water, protect our environment, and make public agencies work for everyone.”
Bury, an environmental and social justice organizer and advocate and longtime community leader, brings over a decade of experience advancing environmental protection, equity and good governance. Her campaign will center on ensuring clean water, protecting residents from flooding, and making MWRD a stronger and more accountable public institution.
The launch follows early endorsements from Northside Democracy for America, Women for Liberty and Justice for All, Alderwoman Maria Hadden and State Representative Kelly Cassidy, with more support expected in the weeks ahead.
