CHICAGO, IL — On December 5th, the Cook County Officers Electoral Board ruled that Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) candidate Sarah Bury would appear on the March 17, 2026 Democratic Primary ballot.
After a full records examination, the Electoral Board found that Bury submitted more than the required 7,702 valid petition signatures to qualify for the ballot. The Board adopted the Hearing Officer’s recommendation to overrule the objections and upheld the validity of Sarah’s nomination papers.
“The community rose up to gather over ten thousand signatures over the last few months and then returned to defend our signatures when they were challenged. I am so grateful for the support of everyone who gathered, defended and signed our petitions,” said Sarah Bury, MWRD candidate. “This campaign is about keeping our water clean, protecting our homes, businesses and streets from flooding and ensuring that the government listens to our residents and makes decisions with them instead of just about them. Now that we know voters will have a choice in March, we can focus on what truly matters: listening to residents share what is important to them and strengthening our relationships within communities across Cook County.”
The objection was formally overruled. As a result, the Board ordered that Sarah Bury’s name be printed on the Democratic Primary ballot for MWRD Commissioner.
Bury, an environmental advocate, attorney, and community leader, is running to promote stronger environmental stewardship, address home and street flooding, and fight for good governance principles within the MWRD.
