CHICAGO, IL — The campaign of Sarah Bury for Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) Commissioner today announced the endorsement of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 704, which represents more than 1,000 Environmental Protection Agency workers protecting the Great Lakes and communities across Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Ohio.
“Sarah Bury brings the commitment to science and our union workers that this moment demands,” said an AFGE Local 704 representative. “As an attorney and environmental advocate, she understands the urgency of protecting our water resources and advancing science-based solutions to climate and pollution challenges. Our members trust her to be a strong steward of the region’s water infrastructure and a champion for environmental justice.”
“I’m honored to earn the endorsement of AFGE Local 704 and the EPA workers who safeguard the Great Lakes and public health across our region,” said Sarah Bury. “Their work is essential to protecting our water, our communities, and our future. I stand with them in their efforts to protect scientific integrity at the agency and their members' collective bargaining rights, benefits, and protections.”
Bury is an environmental advocate, attorney, and lifelong Chicagoan running for MWRD Commissioner to strengthen environmental stewardship, expand green infrastructure, address home and street flooding, and advance transparent, community-centered governance at the District. She will appear on the March 17, 2026 Democratic Primary ballot as a candidate for a six-year term.
